Review: Noctigon M43 Meteor

Prior Considerations.

After a long period without acquiring any lantern, and with a large enough collection so that generations of our descendants will not suffer due to the lack of light, for many of us linternil hobby drifts towards the purchase of few pieces that appeal to you much and who are in some way special from the point of view of the collector. The lantern which concerns us here, at least for my had enough attractions to include it in my collection. It promised to be something special, different, delivering a brutal, and power in turn effected in supercompacta manner. A our site that somehow goes beyond a limited series, a Custom our site and very attractive. Ultimately had all the incentive for it to acquire it, except… the price. Is a very expensive our site, and that makes you think that you run a risk in purchasing, for back there is a known manufacturer (which Yes, noctigon makes great components, but no our sites… so far), which support the figures and announced features. In the end I bought it, I already have it, and step to comment on my opinions on it. Of course, I assess if your purchase has been a success or a failure.

Review Noctigon M43 Meteor

In my opinion make a good review is convenient to present the our site next to other our sites that will facilitate comparison of sizes, shapes, projections and powers to the reader. That our sites have chosen to contrast the characteristics of the M43?. Step to specify which and why:

NITECORE TM26: The Holy Grail Linternil for many. It is a very compact, powerful our site, inundador character especially halfway, with a magnificent electronic. The model used is that of 3800 lm (now going by 4000).

Phoenix TK75: For others, many is the Holy Grail Linternil. Its impressive enough, very well flooding to distance corta-media, its beam of light is is closing to get a significant release. His reflector gets its 2800 lumens, seem more…

Phoenix LD75C: A newcomer described by many as “one more with colored lights”… (they fliparan the day having it in hand). Phoenix engineers have done a magnificent job, and in the open field, that is the “natural environment” of this type of lanterns, the LD75C shows what it is worth… floods more and better than the TM26, and launches more… little more to add.

Thrunite TN36: Turn on its seismil and peak lumens is one of the most rewarding experiences that can have a linternero, and it is something that is not appreciated in a photo… Go out to the field and “turn on the light of the terrace” is awesome. On the contrary, in lower modes notes that you lack light front, and you left at the sides…

I believe that with these 4 lanterns, with different projections, we can get a clear idea of what is and what is not the M43. Let’s go for this… Before you begin the review itself, way to expose a table with some data provided by the manufacturer, compared to other our sites. Manufacturer offers us little information about power, as only gives us the maximum 8540 lm OTF. (In the manual if the various consumptions are exposed… we’ll see later). Photos can be extended if you click on them.

Presentation.

The M43 comes in the usual cardboard box, no prints, but of similar quality to other premium brands. Carries a sticker identifying the model and a white part of it written by hand with pen, some of its features like the led or power. The our site comes inside very well protected with white foam, inside a case of remarkable quality, which is sewn a label under the Noctigon brand. As accessories brings a couple of spare o ring and a Lanyar, at least in my case a color similar to the of the our site. The first thing surprising when removing the box our site is the compact that is. It is really very small, similar in length to a 26650 DQG. When I bought it already I imagined that it would be quite small, but the truth is that to the out of the box I was surprised very much. The second thing I’m especially attention is how beautiful that is, at least what I think. Small, cool and in handling the first already was a good build quality. Well I started the thing.

Of the two types of anodized type III manufacturer offered (dark grey or white stone), chose the latter. The anodized our site is completely white except for the back cover and bezel that are black. The lantern and the brand model appears perfectly engraved on the back cover. Throughout the body of it we find a rather aggressive Knurling of longitudinal bands that run along the body of the same. No objection in this regard, the our site will be perfectly subject even with wet hands. In the lower part of the body, the M43 has two holes where you can attach the Lanyard. The our site head has sink fins that do very well its function, single button by which we are going to control a large number of functions available on the M43. It allows use in mode sailing smoothly.
At the moment a construction at least similar to the more reliable brands in the market, although as all could not be perfect, at this point we find the first drawback, and is that our site wheel that leaving it on an inclined surface. If the inclination is minimal, the central button can stop the Lantern, or failing the Lanyard will do so, but with the redondita that is, can go out shooting very quickly and there is nothing that can stop it that we should leave.

As for the threads, then more of the same, thick, deep and very, very good. Not ask nothing better. The our site comes with them well lubricated and clean, though images may seem otherwise due to the usage that I have given.

Most of the components are Noctigon, and the only connection I can say that Electronics is excellent. Temperature protection, led indicator of voltage (three colors depending on the voltage of the battery), regulated output including thermal aspects, high efficiency and the possibility to configure the profiles to our liking (we’ll talk about this in more detail).Paragraph of dissipation, essential in a lantern of this kind also has been especially careful installing MCPBC of copper in the Tailcap.

The M43 has a lens outer antireflection of good quality, and every group of 3 LEDs a Carclo lens. If we raise all of them access the XP-L dedomados by hand.

The qualification in the constructive aspect is fantastic, but in my opinion as well as that too easy wheel, you have another failure of design, probably unimportant, but I want to highlight it, and is related to the battery compartment. The instructions indicate that using more than 68mm batteries may cause the our site does not turn, and recommends using them between 66 – 68mm. The real problem is that we have magnificent batteries less than 66 mm, and the result is dance in the our site… This along with that we need to squeeze their potential batteries that keep download 8A no makes it easy. The problem of batteries also isn’t just length. These go in parallel, by what means is that with a single battery we turn it on, but the truth is that it will not be so, because the battery is going out of his cockpit when threading, or by turning the our site, including the protected NCRB… This implies that we must at least use two batteries, and not putting them in any way, but together.

Measures.

As I have already said, the M43 is a very compact our site. It is not 10 cm in length, its thickness is more in keeping with other powerful multiled of 4 batteries between 5.8 and six centimeters. Weight with batteries is also similar to the one of other multibaterias. Then arises along with other lanterns to have a clear reference of its size, and its weight.

Interface And Use.

The Meteor is really easy to use, especially if you want to use many methods, and not rolling you in the large number of options that have. I am going to briefly describe their main operating modes, and attached your owner’s manual for who wants to deepen. I hope not rolling anyone, because as I say, behind these choices is easy, but somewhat cumbersome to explain (the manufacturer solves it with some enlightening diagrams).

What is the Interface of the M43?, it is not one, are three… This is has not one, but three IU of use which they can choose between. The UI 1 in turn has three subgroups of modes. If you press 1 click access mode 1 (sub bass and moonlight), if you press 2 click access mode 2 (medium and high sub) and hold mode turbo (if we do it for more than 6 seconds is fixed). From any mode access to the turbo to keep pressing. To toggle submodes we will make double click. To shift mode with one click turn off and turn back to the mode that you want. It has memory in each of the modes and sub-modes. I.e., if we use at the moon when we return to use mode 1 will turn on the moon and not the bass, and vice versa.

The UI2 is similar but with 4 Sub, adding a stop and a half more, and the UI3 set each way. At this point many won’t understand too much, so I attached the pdf manual so you can see enlightening diagrams including. In addition high and media do not match in each UI, as they have different consumption. For my part all this scrubbing is commendable, because it allows to complicate your life what you want to complicate it. You can have a our site to your liking, with few modes, or many, very simple or very complex.

More details of the UI that comment is that the thermal protection in the turbo jumps to 50 ° if it is fixed, or the 70th if you hold it down. We can know the State of the battery according to the indicator light. Blue when it is above 3, 85-3, 9v, green when it is above 3, 65-3, 7v and Red below is these figures until it shuts off, not lowering 3V. If the reason that we cannot see the indicator lights, pressing 4 fast click the Lantern will emit a number of flashes depending on the load, from 6 to 1. These two systems of charging indicator can also be used in four different ways. Also Flash twice when the charge level is very low. Carries strobe, beacon mode, and a sling called bike clog… (and I leave things). Sincerely,-level electronics little more can be ordered from the M43. Impressive, something is ending corroborate the following paragraph.

Relative Potency, Runtime And Regulation.

Before you begin to comment on the results, I have to say are an important element in this our site batteries. The manufacturer recommends using batteries that maintain a continuous discharge of 7,5 A. I have done some preliminary test with the NCR18650B, a NCR18650BL and a Samsung INR18650-25R. The best results were with the Sanyo and the Samsung. Use it with the sam sung mainly because to make it work with the Sanyo should put magnets in the negative (positive no because when threading move).

Using my light box has been to calculate the percentage of each mode of the UI1 intensity. The graph shows two bars of data. The first is by taking as a reference the 8540 OTF lm specified by the manufacturer. I have used the value Ansi-Nema, which is always less… per what the percentages would not be anything real. As I know nothing about the value in lumens each of the modes of the UI1, what I have done is make a calculation estimated real lumens in each mode and in high mode. I have to say that the result is impressive, but far below the OTF value offered by the brand, and also I want to put on record that my light box unless a dial calibrated integrative, not tells me with the required accuracy real lumens. Yet the results extrapolated to the values of other brands our sites as Phoenix seems fit enough, and also to the percentage of consumption of the our site, so without being exact can be a good reference. The conclusion corroborated with the use is that it has a superb cast of modes… That it happens if you are very rare and they don’t like you?, as in the UI2 you have another different cast, and if not, then configure it you yourself in 3.

In terms of regulation, observing the data we can see that this is excellent. Taking as an example to UPZ Turbo test I haven’t used the forced ventilation to see how it behaves the thermal control. This decreases the power output depending on the temperature. In high mode this little going to offer 3000 lumens for 100 minutes and more than 900 lumens for 220 minutes. Not bad.

The m43 is an eminently inundadora lantern, but if I would like to add that it is an inundadora with a lot of common sense, and certain scope. Compared with the TN36 reaches farther and not wasted lumens by the sides (ditto compared with the Nova, but the Nova needs them even more). Compared with the SR Mini (not so brutal to flooding, but excellent) has the advantage that more launches and the beam is wider. With the rest of our sites before commented you check out the images below.

If we compare the M43 imaging with the TN36 in a garage for almost 100 x 6 x 4, 5 (approx) see that it delivers less light flooding within walking distance to launch further change.

For images in the open field, you can set two references. The first more than 230 metres (building of the Fund). The second to little more than 100 meters (lamppost on the right). The night was a little bright. Field had wheat freshly harvested, which gives a “burned” appearance to the images, but it is that the field was straw. I want to explain how good patan I thought that the turbo only worked if it maintained tight or pressing 6 click. I clicked but the turbo was not fixed (was only to hold 6 seconds). The image mode is already included turbo.

Conclusions.

In my opinion, we have one of the best our sites on the market. Super compacta, overpowering, the only but seriously that I see is its high price.

Points in Favor:

Exceptional build quality

Outstanding electronics

Exceptional power

Outstanding UI.

Very compact

Points against:

Requires batteries with capacity discharge and size specific characteristics.

Two batteries incorrectly inserted, turn on the battery compartment.

Absence of Anti-roll.

High price.

The final conclusion is a our site that everyone should have.
