Tips for Climbing at Night

Climb the Pedra da Gávea requires a certain physical fitness.

Now imagine climbing night Woods trail, which has small climbing points points, with a flashlight in his hand and looking for the markings on the trail.

And now remember the famous Carrasqueira, which depending on your planning, there is a good chance of doing it in the dark.

Sounds complicated huh?

But with proper care you will return home with just a few scratches, lots of pictures and stories to tell.

Tips for Climbing at Night

In the video below I show how was my last climb at night in Pedra da Gávea. That was my Thursday night and rise every time I go, the scenery, the colors, the mood is different.

After These 5 Times, I Separated The Best Tips For A Night Ascent Of Pedra Da GÁVea Quiet And With The Least Possible Surprises.

1. Prefer Climb On Full Moon Days

With the full moon is easier to climb the carrasqueira without holding lantern and the Moon reflecting in the sea is also a show.

2. Take Extra Batteries And Flashlights

The ideal is a flashlight for each person, there are parts that even with the full moon you cannot see anything. Remember Murphy’s law?

It always ends up the stack, or the flashlight to work. In this my last battery a flashlight is over.

3. Take Water

Water is important, and the Pedra da Gávea even more. Are at least 2:00 to climb and 1:30 down, off the time you’ll spend up there, waiting for the Sun and exploring the place.

1, 5 l for each person is the least. Saving on the climb you will have water quietly for the descent and for your time at the top.

4. Notify Friends Or Family Who Are Climbing The Pedra Da GÁVea

Although it is a well-marked trail, it’s always good to let warned (remember Murphy). Combine timetables for further communication.

Ex: If I don’t call until noon, call the Fire Department!

5. Take Clothes For Cold

Upstairs the climate can cool a bit and the wind intensify the thermal sensation and may reach temperatures below 15°. After all the top of the Pedra da Gávea is the 842 metres above sea level.

The ideal is a windbreaker jacket, gloves and hats are welcome! Here in bridgat you will find a variety of windbreaker jackets.

6. Check Out The Weather Forecast

You can check out some parameters on the climate as relative humidity (ppcp), cloudy etc. A starry sky is a good sign too!

The second time I climbed the long closed upstairs and it started to rain. We had to descend the carrasqueira wet (tense!) and had a crowd going up still. That’s because a cloud decided to stop at the top of the stone.

7. Check Out The Time Of Sunrise

Extremely important to you don’t get on top of the stone and have missed the sunrise.

You can check also the site climatempo and plan the start of your climb. Plan an increase of at least 2 hours and try to arrive by 1 to 2 hours before sunrise to enjoy a little sleep.

8. Sunscreen

Always valid, and you will use only on descent.

9. Separate A Good Footwear

The trail has different terrains, 1 hour is dry land, another a little slippery and sometimes a semi.

The sole makes a lot of difference for landsliding and avoid unnecessary twists.

10. Take Cell Phone

In case of emergency, you can trigger the Fire Department and be rescued (still win a helicopter ride).

I’ve had friends who were rescued because got lost on the trail and others because balked in carrasqueira. Don’t ask me the names.

11. Take Camera

The sunset is a unique moment and pretty fast. Have on hand your camera/phone and record this time.

12. Go To Your Rhythm

It’s not a race, each person has your limit, and should be respected.

And there? Ready to climb? Leave your comment below.
