The dangers of blue light
Blue light is the light that disperse most, it is she who is responsible for the dazzling. We can see this easily, by remaining exposed for too long to these devices, tingling sensations at the level of the eyes, and headaches appear. But in addition to eye fatigue, blue light disrupts our biological rhythm.
Every day, it is the light that sets our biological rhythm. Light, and in particular blue light, causes the secretion of the hormones of “awakening”. Conversely, when the day darkens, the hormones of “sleep” activate. An excessive exposure to the blue light thus breaks this balance and deregulates this rhythm called “Circadian rhythm”. These disorders cause disorders of sleep, mood, even depressions. If you have problems sleeping, avoid exposing yourself to the screens at least 1 hour before sleep.
How to detect the presence of blue light?
Standard NF EN 62 471
The photobiological safety standard NF EN 62 741 proposes a classification in four groups of risks for the eye:
Group 0: presents no photobiological risk
Group 1: low risk
Group 2: moderate risk
Group 3: high risk
Despite this classification, which is still little known to the general public, many installed lights present risks to the eyes and to health. Recent studies also show that the NF EN 62471 standard is not sufficiently adapted to LED lighting. It is not necessarily a proof of the presence of blue light in lighting using LED technology.
